What advice do you have for people coping with pet loss?

QUESTION:

What advice do you have for people coping with pet loss?

ANSWER:

The most important thing to remember is to get plenty of extra-soft kleenex. If you're not allergic to it, the stuff with lotion or aloe works really well.

You're going to cry. You're going to blow your nose a lot.

No sense in making the pain worse, right?

Aside from that, I could say a bunch of things about time heals all wounds, rainbow bridges, it not being fair that we outlive our pets but they outlove us, and so on.

But I'm going to stick to practical things and just tell you to get comfortable Kleenex or Puffs or something that won't leave your nose a raw mess after a week or two of mourning.

Oh, and be sure to keep a travel pack of the stuff around. You may be somewhere far away from that box when you need them.

If you need more advice, well, get some Visine, too. Your eyes are going to be as red as Mars after all that crying and blowing your nose.
